This is "Wilson's Photographics" by Edward L. Wilson, in a first edition published by the author in 1881. This edition features a complete guide to photography, including composition, materials, dark-room, preparation of the glass, chemicals, manipulation, retouching the negative, printing on various papers, mounting and finishing, bromo-gelatin emulsion work, Vogel's collodion emulsion, enlargements, phototypes, platinotypes and collodion transfers. There are 90 photo-engraving and woodcut illustrations, and two phototypes with protective paper facings. The book is bound in brown embossed cloth with gilt lettering and decorations on spine and cover; it has 352 pages, followed by 24 pages of advertisements of interest to the photographic trade. Condition of the book is Good; it has evidently been used in close proximity with photographic chemicals, and both the front cover and to a lesser degree, the rear cover, show stains (see scan of front cover). There are light dampstains to the pages and various small spots and stains. There is wear to the edges and corners, and the spine extremities exhibit some loss of material. There is a business card attached to the LFEP. Despite these conditional issues, this very scarce book is in stable condition and presents a unique view of the art of photography in the 19th century.
