These are antique punching and cutting pliers. Patented in 1885, they are intended for use as a belt punch as well as cutting tool. Great tool to add to a collection and useful too. A copy of the patent is included. It has a solid, robust construction. Old quality. No rust.

√ Marked: “PATENTED MAY 5, 1885”; “M.D. EDWARDS & CO. DETROIT MICH.”; “A.N.S.B.Y.”. Overall length approx.: 18.4 cm (7 3/8”) long. Made of carbon steel construction showing pitting, dents, black scale and surface scratches. Covered with a thin coat of bee’s wax to protect it during handling.
√ It has a blackened screw-in tapered punch with a diameter of about 3 mm at the tip. It has a cleaning hole and a transversal hole to adjust the depth and change the punch. The punch has a thin sharp edge, not dented, no cracks and smooth to the run a of a finger nail. The opposite jaw has a brass seat approx. 8 mm in diameter.
√ It has a pair of wedge-shaped cutters in the innermost part of the pliers. The edge is approx.: 9mm in length. No chips on the cutting edge.
√ It has a riveted blackened steel spring with strong action and base metal showing.
√ The tool has graduated stops for different belt sizes.
