Belt breakages are a common occurrence on a Dyson vacuum cleaner, most commonly due to age and use over time.  Although breakages can be caused by jammed brush bars, often due to them being clogged up with debris or the brush bar needing to be replaced.

Therefore it is recommended you check the brush bar is rotating freely without any resistance before replacing the drive belt or the same could happen with the new belt.
