• The coverage area extends from Crete to the Caspian Sea, south to Alexandria and the Persian Gulf, including present-day Syria, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Cyprus, and Armenia — a vast area of southwestern Asia which was part of the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Mahmud II when this map was printed.



• This handsome map was engraved by George Boynton, and it was published by Samuel Walker, Boston, 1834, in Conrad Malte-Brun's A System of Universal Geography, or a Description of All Parts of the World.



• The image area measures 19.5 x 24 cm [7½" x 9½"]. Longitude is measured from Greenwich.



• Among the named places and features on the map are Constantinople, Nicosia, Baghdad, Erivan, Jerusalem, Smyrna, Damascus, Lake Van, Ciracassia, Armenia, Babylon, Antioch, Karasi, Sinop, Antalya, and the route of the caravans from Basra to Aleppo,
