Founded in 1954, the United States Air Force Academy trains and prepares officers for service in the world's most powerful and sophisticated aviation force.

Occupying more than 18,000 acres at the base of the Rampart Range just north of Colorado Springs, the Air Force Academy is located more than 7,000 feet above sea level. Providing aspiring Air Force officers with an intense training regimen focused on aviation and military science, physical conditioning, and character development, the Air Force Academy executes its mission to prepare highly skilled and decisive leaders.
 
Over the years, the Academy has commissioned more than 35,000 officers to serve in a full range of flying and support specialties, helping to ensure the continuation of America's air and space dominance.

This coin salutes the ongoing mission of the Air Force Academy to train and prepare tomorrow's Air Force leaders. The obverse contains the Air Force Academy emblem. The reverse bears the vintage seal of the U.S. Air Force.

Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is imbued with traditional Air Force colors on both sides.
