S-100 Operating Instructions:

  • Use the blade rail on the tool and with pliers snap individual sipe blades away from strip
  • Place blades in between spacers.  Adjust lever and blade clamping screw according to the number of blades you want to hold.  The more blades to hold, the more the clamping screw will need to be loosened.  The lever can be adjusted by disengaging it from the screw head and rotating it to the desired position.  Set the cutting edge of the blades in the direction you want to cut.  Up to 13 blades can be held in this tool.  Move blades up or down in head assembly to desired depth of cut.  A flat surface can be used to set multiple blades to the same depth.  Lock blades in place by turning lever.
  • Plug in to proper electrical outlet.  Allow 10-15 minutes to heat up.
  • For safety, set the tool in the proper resting position.  When in this position, the center mark "V" on the head will be facing down.  DO NOT set heated tool near any flammable materials
  • Avoid touching metallic parts of tool after it is heated
  • The S-100 Siper can also cut "open sipes" by using the Van Alstine #1 grooving blade.  This blade allows for the removal of a thin sliver of rubber and thereby provides a unique method to optimize tire performance
  • To place the #1 grooving blade in tool, straddle one spacer with the legs of the blade and set to the desired cutting depth.  See below sketches for cutting direction
  • The S-100 also works well for cutting small grooves.  Place legs of grooving blade around appropriate number of spacers.  Lock the blade at the desired cutting depth.  See below sketch for cutting direction
  • Pulling in this direction enables the tool to easily slide over existing grooves in the tire.  This is best for cutting multiple sipes or speed siping

  • Pulling in this direction enables the operator to view the blade as it cuts through the rubber.  This is best for precision grooving or siping with one or more blades
