He played for the Braves 1968-75, Chicago White Sox 1976-79 and California Angels 1979-80. Ralph, whose nickname was "Road Runner", was named to the 1974 NL All-Star team and led all NL batters with 214 hits, 17 triples and a .353 batting average during the 1974 season. Ralph signed the sweet spot of this ONL Leonard S. Coleman baseball with a blue ballpoint pen and he also inscribed underneath his name, "1974 Batting Champ 353", to note his accomplishment. Ralph Allen Garr (born December 12, 1945 in Monroe, Louisiana) is a former Major League Baseball player who played outfield for the Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox and California Angels. He batted left-handed and threw right. Garr attended Grambling State University. Garr led the National League in hitting in 1974 compiling a .353 average and being named to the National League All-Star team. He had 149 hits heading into the All-Star break that year, a record that still stands to this day. Ralph batted .300 or better 5 times during his career. In a 13-year career, he batted .306 with 75 home runs and 408 RBIs in 1317 games. He had 1562 career hits in 5108 at bats. Garr had 717 career runs scored. Garr had a remarkable talent for hitting to all fields, a very valuable skill because fielders could never predict how to set up their defense when Garr came to the plate.
