Occasions of Public Worship

Originally published in 1790, the only date I could find in this book is 1869  (the title page for the Psalms of David section states ~ Oxford: Printed at the University Press, And Sold by T. Nelson & Sons, New York, 1869), brown leather with brass edge trim with evidence of some kind of clasp (which is missing), gilt lettering on the spine, gilt page edges all around, 786 pages printed on thin paper, no illustrations, measures about 4 inches X 2 7 /8 inches X 1 1/8 inches thick.

There are a few surface scratches and some minor wear on the leather. There is a stain on the back cover. There is a small piece of leather missing from the top edge of the spine (see photo below) with a small scuff on the gilding on the page edges where they meet the top of the spine. The brass edge around the leather on the cover is tarnished. The brass on the bottom outside corner of the front cover is very slightly bent. The front and back hinges are split but the pages ARE TIGHT.

The title page and front flyleaf are missing.

The Table of Contents page (which is now the first page) has a thin dark border. The name of a previous owner is neatly stamped on the very last blank page. There is a small word written in pencil on the back inside cover. The pages ARE TIGHT, CLEAN, and UNMARKED.

From the Internet ~

"The Book of Common Prayer is one of the major works of English literature. Since its introduction in the mid~1500's it has exerted enormous influence on the religious and literary lives of all who speak the English language. The Book of Common Prayer has gone through a number of editions, not only in England where it originated, but in all the places where the various Churches of the Anglican communion are now active."
