Step-By-Step Plastic Repair
USING PLASFIX 60 sec. FROM WAYSIDE ADHESIVES
 

1.

For most repairs the bumper
cover needs to be removed from the vehicle.

This is our damage, a break in the surface of a plastic bumper.

The back of the broken plastic needs to be given some tooth to hold the repair materials.  Use 80 grit by hand or on an orbital sander for this step.

4.

Apply a coat of our PLASTIC ADHESION promoter. This will help the repair materials bond with the plastic surface.

5.

Cut the appropriate size reinforcing mesh to extend about an inch beyond all sides of the damage.

Apply enough repair material to allow you to spread it evenly over and beyond the area needing repair

After rounding off the corners of the reinforcing material position it over the repair and...

work the patch into the soft repair material with a spreader.

9.

Spread more repair material OVER the reinforcing mesh burying it. Then allow the material to harden then start on the front of the bumper.

10.

On the face of the bumper you sand the damage until it's slightly low and feather out the paint several inches beyond the work area.  Use 80 grit for this step.

11.

Spray the area with Surface Modifier and allow it to dry the appropriate amount of time depending on the temperature at the time of repair.

12.

Apply a liberal amount of repair material so that you have enough to make the area a little too high.

Using the proper size spreader for the amount of damage spread the repair material evenly over the the repair area.  Be sure to push the material into the surface scratches then spread it evenly over the surface. Then apply the SMOOTHING FILM, this will reduce the amount of sanding

14.

Sand the surface smooth using 80 grit sandpaper.  This can be leveled better by block sanding after it is initially cut using a power sander.
I usually like finishing this step using 180 grit sandpaper.

16.

MASTERFIL PLASTIC can be used to finish the repair and to do any minor surface repairs.

Note:

Although Plasfix 60  was used on this repair Wayside's other products work just as well and don't harden as quickly.

Note:

After the repairs are finished the area is sanded and primed using PRIMA FILLA 3000 or a primer that has had a flex additive added.   After priming the surface it is Guide Coated and block sanded to make the surface ready for paint.
