This Digitally Remastered Operations & User Manual gives the collector or user of this microphone the exact information RCA produced for this unit. Small but Important Note: Because these are early documents, There may be multiple printings or revisions, MI references can vary slightly depending on issue date, Some manuals may omit the MI number entirely. That variability is normal for early RCA materials.

In early 1930s RCA manuals, the MI number may appear: On the cover or title page (sometimes small or secondary); In catalog listings or price sheets; Within parts lists or ordering information; In service or installation documentation 

Unlike later RCA manuals (1940s–1950s), early documents were less standardized, so:

👉 Some versions emphasize the model name (44-A)
👉 Others emphasize the MI number (MI-4027)
👉 Some include both, but not prominently

The RCA 44-A was introduced in 1933, and was only available in Statuary Bronze. This microphone was the first of the 44 series that became the standard ribbon microphones for radio broadcasting and recording.  The original 16-page manual I used to produce the remastered version was supplied by RCA collector, Scott Horner.

The remastering of this manual was one of the most difficult I produced, and took about 80 hours (over 3 months). I am particularly proud of the way the eight photographs turned out. The original manual was 73 years old! But, you will be amazed at the quality of the photos, and the text. I’ve included a fairly detailed image of one photo below, so you can see for yourself.

This manual contains eight photos of the microphone:
1) wide shot on a floor stand,
2) detail photo of the mike and floor stand mount,
3) on a suspension hanger for film use,
4) multi-photo detail of the installation of the windscreen,
5) 6) 7) three photos of Cannon connectors and a wall plate, and finally,
8) on the AZ-4191 desk stand.

The manual contains application information for using the mike with an orchestra, as well as with soloists, directional response curve, a detailed wiring diagram, and a parts list including accessories. The manual contains complete specifications, but not in table form; they are scattered throughout the 9 pages of text in the manual. This manual is essential to the understanding and use of the 44-A microphone, and our remastered version of the manual is authentic, very clean, and will give years of service for your microphone. This is a 16-page manual, but 4 pages are blank, just as in the original manual.

We use heavy stock matte or premium glossy photo paper for the front and back covers, and heavy paper for the inside pages. The outside covers are protected by 10 mil thick, clear plastic sheets. It is then bound with plastic ring comb binding so the manual will open flat and be very durable.
