Compy & Professor Fingers #188 · DoDo, The Kid From Outer Space · Rookie Card
A cult British space cartoon's sidekicks, together on their first trading card.
Compy and Professor Fingers come from DoDo, The Kid From Outer Space, the 1964 series by Halas & Batchelor, the British studio behind the landmark animated feature Animal Farm. Compy is DoDo's half-mechanical, half-living pet bird; the Professor is a bumbling scientist with bottomless pockets. Editorial Fher put the pair on card #188 of its 1971 Festival Hanna-Barbera album, the Rookie Card of both characters.

The kid from Zip Zone and his strange friends
DoDo, The Kid From Outer Space followed a young alien from the atomic planet Zip Zone, with propellers on his heels, who visited Earth to explore its mysteries. Produced in 1964 by Halas & Batchelor, it ran to 78 five-minute films and debuted in American syndication in August 1965.
Compy is one of television animation's odder creations: a bird hatched from an egg laid on a stack of computer punch cards, making him half living, half machine. He can project films from the top of his head and calculate by spinning his eyes. Professor Fingers, a balding researcher of unsolved mysteries, carries interdimensional pockets that hold objects of any size.
Fher's 1971 album
Editorial Fher's Festival Hanna-Barbera album for Spanish kiosks also brought in cartoons from other studios that were airing on television at the time, and DoDo was one of them. Cards of this lesser-known British series are seldom seen. This example was never glued, so card #188 never went into an album.
WHY NEVER-GLUED SPANISH CARDS ARE SO RARE
Vintage Spanish album cards were made to be glued into albums, not preserved loose. Duplicates were often traded, carried in pockets or discarded, while unsold packs were rarely preserved. Finding surviving examples with untouched backs is therefore especially difficult.
NEVER GLUED — 1.25–2% Seller-observed estimate based on decades of collecting loose Spanish album cards. | MINT NEVER GLUED — 0.1–0.3% Illustrative, unmeasured estimate for untouched backs with exceptional corners and surfaces. |
Never glued does not necessarily mean mint. A card can retain an untouched reverse while showing age or handling. The finest examples may originate from unopened packs or forgotten commercial stock.
Temporary availability is not lasting supply. Several examples may emerge from a single discovery, followed by years without another appearing.
Percentages refer to loose Spanish album cards encountered, not original print runs or total surviving populations. The Never Glued figure is based on firsthand collecting observations; the Mint figure is illustrative, not measured.
Condition
Never glued, with an unprinted reverse free of glue, album residue and paper loss. The front keeps bright color and a sharp image but shows handling: white surface scuffs in the blue sky and along the ground, a small white spot beside the shoe, rounded corners, edge wear and light soiling on the borders. The reverse shows toning, scattered foxing and a faint ghosted offset in the lower center. Ungraded.
