Up for sale is an authentic 1873 Three-Cent Nickel (3CN) featuring the scarce "Closed 3" date variety. This historic US type coin has been professionally authenticated and graded Fine 15 (F15) by PCGS.
About the Variety:
Early in 1873, the U.S. Mint struck coins with a closely spaced date logotype, known to collectors as the "Closed 3." Because it frequently looked like an "8" from a distance, the Chief Engraver modified the design later that year to create the "Open 3." The Closed 3 remains highly sought after by variety and type collectors alike.
