DESCRIPTION:

Beautiful Sitzendorf Dresden lace porcelain figurine of a Flower Lady carrying two flower-filled baskets, made by the historic Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur in Sitzendorf, Germany.

This highly detailed figurine features a lovely lady wearing an elaborate, multi-tiered real-lace porcelain crinoline skirt, with each delicate lace section carefully applied to the porcelain and finished with hand-painted details. She carries two woven baskets overflowing with colorful hand-painted porcelain flowers, and the figurine is finished with a beautifully decorated floral base.

DESIGN & HISTORY

The model is identified as “Die Korbspitze” (The Basket Lace), designed by Max Siegel and introduced around 1939.

The underside bears the distinctive Sitzendorf mark consisting of a deep blue underglaze seven-pointed crown over a script “S” with a horizontal slash.

This particular crowned “S” configuration was introduced by the factory in 1918 and was used through much of its mid-20th-century production.

Because the Die Korbspitze model was introduced around 1939, this particular example can be dated approximately to the late 1930s through the 1950s, making it an excellent piece for collectors of German porcelain, Dresden lace figures, and Sitzendorf figurines.
