Opel was Germany's largest truck producer before the war. The Blitz name was coined in a prize competition and was first applied to a new truck presented in Nov. 1930. Over 130,000 Blitz trucks and chassis were produced and these vehicles played a critical role in Germany's war machine. However, fuel became an increasingly scarce commodity, and many trucks became replaced by horses as the war progressed.
