American Nineteenth Century Paintings — From the Collection of Douglas B. Collins, auction catalogue issued by Richard A. Bourne Co., Inc., Hyannis, Massachusetts, for the public auction held Friday, August 18, 1972.

An interesting vintage reference catalogue devoted to 19th-century American painting. The sale includes illustrated works by notable American artists, with descriptions, dimensions, provenance, exhibition history and references where applicable.

Artists shown in the catalogue include William Louis Sonntag, Ralph A. Blakelock, James McDougal Hart, George Inness, Alvan T. Fisher, Thomas Bigelow Craig, Thomas Moran, Charles W. Knapp, and others.

A particularly desirable feature is the original “Price Key — Auction — August 18, 1972”, listing realized prices for lots 1–71. The Price Key is stapled to the title page. Numerous catalogue pages also contain handwritten prices, dimensions and artist notes, apparently made by a previous owner around the time of the sale.

The catalogue contains both black-and-white and color reproductions. It is a useful period reference for collectors, dealers and researchers interested in American art, Hudson River School and 19th-century landscape painting, auction history, provenance and historical art-market prices.
