Vintage Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Ladies Quartz Watch, 23mm Gold-Tone Case, White Dial, Made in France, with Box and Tag

A small, very Parisian dress watch: a sculpted gold-tone case with rounded corners, stepped sides and a contrasting silver-tone bezel around a crisp white dial with oversized 3 and 9 numerals, fine rectangular outlines and the intertwined YSL monogram.

Brand heritage

Yves Saint Laurent founded his couture house in Paris in 1961 with Pierre Bergé and went on to reshape women’s fashion with pieces such as Le Smoking tuxedo of 1966 and the Rive Gauche ready-to-wear line. From the 1970s the YSL name also appeared on licensed accessories, including French-made fashion watches.

Model history

This watch belongs to the licensed Yves Saint Laurent Collection watches made in France and is stylistically attributed to the 1980s–1990s. As with most fashion-house watches of the period it is quartz powered, with the emphasis on case design and dial graphics.

Condition

Visible signs of age include surface scratches, wear to the case finish, small dial marks and wear to the strap and its lining. The box, outer packaging and tag also show age-related wear. The watch works well for a vintage timepiece.
