E. N. Welch drop dial wall clock in lovely Marquetry case - restoration project
I bought this for the beautiful case (like Tunbridge ware) but I do not have the skills to properly repair the clock mechanism itself.
The case has stunning Marquetry and carved wooden areas, it is 75 cm tall, 42 cm wide and 13 cm deep.
This movement is not fully working, it does tick and cogs move, the minute hand does move (maybe a bit quickly)
and I have now fixed it into the case.
The Movement is labeled:
E. N. Welch
Forestville CT
U.S.A.
Model No: G301870
See photo 8 & 9
I think this is an 8 day movement and was fitted into the case in England
(says made in England on the front)
The case does have some damage to the Marquetry at the bottom and top which I have tried to repair,
as well a line of the more detailed pattern. See last 3 photos.
The bottom window does have the original glass.
I do not have the keys and I'm not sure if it ever had a main glass cover.
The clock also needs a Bell and maybe a pendulum that could be seen in that lower window.
I have added a wooden dowel to the original 2 pegs that hold the face onto main body of the clock.
When repaired this will be a beautiful and valuable clock as the case is very fine.
I will wrap this very thoroughly and post it via Parcel Force (hence higher postage price) but would prefer it picked up.
