Vintage Taiwanese Bamboo Plate – Magu Presenting Longevity
Beautiful vintage bamboo/composite decorative plate made in Taiwan, featuring Magu (麻姑), the Chinese female immortal associated with longevity, presenting a tray of peaches. The colorful traditional scene is surrounded by Chinese calligraphy and red seal marks.
The plate is approximately 12 inches in diameter and has a shallow raised rim. The decoration is a period heat-transfer image applied to the bamboo surface, not hand-painted. The reverse has the original printed text describing the plate and is marked:
“Made in Taiwan Republic of China”
“中華民國 臺灣出品”
The National Taiwan Museum of History has a documented example of this type of bamboo plate dating approximately 1950–1969, describing these lightweight bamboo plates as both practical serving pieces and decorative objects.
This is a wonderful example of mid-century Taiwanese decorative folk art and would look especially good displayed on a wall, shelf, or plate stand.
Condition: Vintage condition with minor surface marks, edge wear, and signs of age/use consistent with its age. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description.
