Listing Title:

Very Large Late 20th Century Maritime Harbour Shipping Oil Painting

Brief Description:

A wonderfully impressive and very large late 20th-century original oil on canvas painting, depicting a busy European harbour and shipyard filled with commercial vessels, tugboats and towering dockside cranes.

The artist has captured the industrial waterfront with considerable detail, setting the darker silhouettes of the ships and cranes against an atmospheric blue, peach and golden sky. The warm evening light is beautifully reflected across the water, giving the composition an unusually attractive balance between an industrial maritime subject and a softer, almost tranquil atmosphere.

Several substantial ships dominate the harbour, surrounded by smaller working vessels and an impressive collection of cranes and dockside structures. The strong architectural lines of the cranes contrast particularly well with the softly painted clouds and shimmering water.

The painting has an interesting commercial provenance, being inscribed to the lower left:

“With compliments ‘Legero International Group’”

It is also signed to the lower right, apparently “F. v.d. Burg.”

Presented in its original black and gilt moulded frame, the painting has strong decorative impact and would make a striking statement piece for a large reception room, office, boardroom, restaurant, maritime interior, or substantial private home.
