Atlas Master N scale 33,000 gallon tank car in the Cal Gas billboard scheme, reporting marks SHPX, road number 17431. The prototype is the ACF whale-belly tank car, designed in the early 1960s for liquefied petroleum gas and anhydrous ammonia.
- ACF whale-belly design; true prototype capacity 33,156 gallons
- AccuMate couplers, made under license from AccuRail
- 100-ton roller bearing trucks
- Fine end ladders with separately applied handrails
- Separate air reservoir, full walkway and end platforms
- Intricate lettering on the ends with prototypically accurate paint
- Minimum operating radius 9-3/4 inches
- Released October 2019
SHPX is the mark of Shippers Car Line, ACF Industries' leasing division - a lessor's mark rather than a railroad, which is why the customer-facing name on the car is Cal Gas, the propane distributor leasing it. Cars of this type remain in revenue service today, so the modelling window is wide; the era shown is our reading rather than a published date. Atlas photographs one car per number-pair, so imagery may show sister number 17433 in identical paint. Country of manufacture is inferred and the weight is an estimate; no barcode is published.
Important: Road Number Accuracy (Rolling Stock)
Road Numbers for Rolling Stock: Always go by the listing title for the road number. Do not go by the picture. When a manufacturer makes a model with multiple road numbers, they often use the same stock photo for all part numbers/road numbers.
Please do not purchase based on the picture only. Please read the title, item specifics, and description. Manufacturer photos may sometimes include items not included .
