Corsets Worse Than Foot Binding; Short Skirt Immodest
Declaring the now obsolete Chinese custom of foot binding was not as bad as the American custom of wearing corsets, Mrs. Ma Soo startled residents of Philadelphia. Mrs. Ma is in Philadelphia while her husband, as chairman, is attending the Kuomintang (People's Party) convention in that city.
Mrs. Ma, who wears an American wristwatch, discussed American and Chinese clothes with gusto. She said the short skirts are immodest and much prefers the Chinese trousers for girls. Her daughter, Li (Elizabeth), is wearing the trousers. She came from China in April to finish her education here.
Mr. and Mrs. Ma Soo live in New York City.
