Vintage original oil painting on canvas depicting the USS Ozark (MCS-2), a U.S. Navy mine countermeasures support ship, shown in detailed profile with hull number 2, deck equipment, cranes, radar structures, American flag, and helicopter platform.
The original engraved plaque identifies the painting as presented to Capt. W.B. Hoofstetter, USN, Commanding Officer of USS Ozark, and records his command dates of August 24, 1967–June 20, 1969. Navy records confirm William Benson Hooffstetter commanded the vessel for those exact dates.
The painting retains a Blue Knight Gallery, Charleston, South Carolina label on the reverse an especially fitting connection, as Charleston was USS Ozark's homeport during Hooffstetter's command. Presented in its silver-tone frame, the plaque and Charleston framing give the piece a strong and coherent period provenance.
A distinctive piece of U.S. Navy and American maritime history with direct association to the ship's commanding officer. Frame measurements approximately 21 x 25 inches.
