Tomorrow's ocean liner?
A giant helicopter, 300 feet long, powered by nuclear energy, takes flight from the drawing board in artist conception.
It's more than a flight of fancy, however. Preliminary studies for such a craft have just been completed for the Air Force by Bell Helicopter Corporation, though there are no plans at present to build it.
The projected behemoth would weigh half a million pounds (10 times more than any helicopter in existence) and be able to carry troops, passengers, or cargo on its many decks at over 200 miles per hour. Atom power could keep it aloft indefinitely, giving it virtually unlimited range.
