Antique Hand Forged Woodworking Lathe Turning Tool Curved Chisel Wood Handle

Unusual antique hand-forged woodworking tool, believed to be an early lathe or woodturning tool.

The tool measures approximately 7" overall. The forged steel portion measures approximately 4 3/8" long x 5/16" wide x 1/8" thick and has a gently curved profile ending in a small grooved/sharpened cutting end.

The steel shows old forging and working marks, including evidence of hammering, giving it the character of an individually made or modified craftsman's tool rather than a modern manufactured chisel.

Fitted with an old turned wooden handle. The steel remains firmly seated in the handle with no looseness noted.

Good antique condition with expected darkening, patina, tool marks and wear from age and use. No maker's mark was found.

Its exact original specialty is unknown, although its shape and cutting end suggest it may have been used for woodturning or other specialized woodworking work. Please examine the photos closely for identification and condition.

A great little piece for an antique woodworking tool collection or traditional woodturning display.
