This edition is considered the first attempted "critical edition" of the Hebrew text. The editor Johann Heinrich Michaelis compared five variant Hebrew manuscripts and nineteen printed editions and recorded the variant readings and problems in his Latin marginal notes. The text is printed with vowels and accents. Our copy with wide margins, trimmed at top edge. Text in Hebrew, with marginalia and commentary in Latin. Binding with wear, chips along joints, two inch closed tear at bottom of front cover, cloth worn off along bottom edges and head of spine. Starting at inside covers. Paper tags at spine. Light staining on inside front cover. Block lightly age-toned. Binding in overall fair, interior in good condition. fair to good.
