The details below are the review given at the time of launch and not the opinions of the seller

The original PING Glide was created to provide reliable spin, distance control and turf interaction across full approaches, bunker shots, pitches and shots around the green.

This right-handed 54° example features PING’s versatile SS Standard Sole, a standard black-dot lie and the original PING CFS Wedge steel shaft.

The SS sole is PING’s mid-bounce, all-purpose option. It is designed primarily for golfers with a neutral angle of attack and provides a practical balance between forgiveness and the ability to manipulate the clubface.

KEY DETAILS

SS STANDARD SOLE

PING developed the Glide family with several sole configurations to suit different swings and playing conditions.

The SS Standard Sole is the most versatile option in the original Glide range. It provides a moderate sole width and mid-bounce performance suitable for golfers with relatively neutral delivery into the ball.

It is designed to perform across:

The sole provides enough bounce to prevent excessive digging while remaining versatile when the face needs to be opened slightly.

431 STAINLESS-STEEL CONSTRUCTION

The original Glide wedges were cast from 431 stainless steel.

This material is softer than the 17-4 stainless steel used in several earlier PING wedges. It was selected to provide a softer sensation at impact without sacrificing the durability expected from a cast PING head.

PING also repositioned its elastomer Custom Tuning Port behind the impact area to absorb unwanted vibration and contribute to a more solid, controlled feel.

PRECISION-MILLED GROOVES

PING engineered the original Glide grooves to deliver consistent spin and trajectory control.

The groove configuration was tailored according to loft:

At 54°, this wedge is suitable for both full and partial shots, giving it a useful position between a gap wedge and higher-lofted lob wedge.

The face on this example has been used and displays visible strike wear, but the grooves remain clearly defined.

SATIN CHROME FINISH

The Glide’s satin chrome-plated finish was not chosen purely for appearance.

PING’s testing found that the chrome finish moved water away from the face more effectively than the darker finish used on its preceding Tour Gorge wedges. The objective was more predictable contact and spin from damp grass.

The satin treatment also reduces glare when the club is placed behind the ball.

PING CFS WEDGE SHAFT

This club retains the PING CFS Wedge steel shaft.

CFS stands for Control, Feel and Stability. The wedge-specific design was intended to provide a stable impact sensation and help golfers control trajectory on full and partial wedge shots.

It is correctly entered on eBay as Wedge Flex, rather than regular or stiff flex.

INDEPENDENT REVIEWS

GolfWRX

GolfWRX highlighted the change to softer 431 stainless steel and PING’s redesigned elastomer tuning port. Its review found the Glide easy to use while retaining sufficient versatility for more accomplished wedge players.

It also highlighted PING’s satin chrome finish, which was designed to provide more consistent performance when moisture was present.

The Hackers Paradise

The Hackers Paradise described the original Glide as a clean-looking and well-rounded wedge family with enough sole options to accommodate a wide range of golfers.

Its testing found the SS sole particularly capable from bunkers and rough, with enough bounce to prevent the club digging too deeply.

Independent user testing

Long-term user feedback has regularly identified the SS sole as the most adaptable option in the Glide family. Golfers have praised it for full approaches, pitches and bunker shots, along with its ability to open the face without raising the leading edge excessively.
