Description

Original vintage Mullard 56 AVP photomultiplier tube, supplied with its period Mullard industrial-electronics box.

The identification label on the box records:

Type: 56 AVP
No.: 45742 E26
Photocathode Sensitivity: 61 µA/lm

The 56 AVP is a high-performance fast photomultiplier developed for scientific and nuclear instrumentation. Published technical literature describes it as a 14-stage, high-gain, fast-response photomultiplier, with applications including scintillation detection, gamma-ray spectroscopy, neutron measurement and nuclear-particle timing.

Provenance

This is a used laboratory photomultiplier removed from scientific research equipment originating from facilities at either Harwell or Rutherford Laboratories, where it formed part of an important research project.

The tube was working when the equipment was decommissioned.

To the best of my knowledge this tube remains in fully working order; however, I am unable to test it with the specialist equipment required and therefore cannot guarantee its present performance.

If the buyer is not satisfied with the operation of the tube, I am happy to provide a full refund or, where available, replace it with an equivalent tube.

The tube remains fitted within its substantial black housing and retains its blue multi-pin base together with various original laboratory identification and handwritten markings.

Supplied with the Mullard cardboard box shown in the photographs.

Condition

Used vintage laboratory condition – boxed.

This is not a New Old Stock tube. It has previously been installed and used in scientific research equipment.

The tube and its housing show normal signs of laboratory use, including old adhesive labels, handwritten identification/test markings and general age-related wear.

The Mullard cardboard box is included and shows considerable age and storage wear. The box should therefore be regarded as the tube’s accompanying period storage box rather than evidence that the tube is unused.

Working when decommissioned and believed to remain operational, but currently untested.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

Buyers please note

All buyers – If you see something of interest in my listings, please don’t hesitate to make an offer. I believe I have priced my items fairly; however, I don’t always get it right. Feel free to contact me or submit a reasonable offer and I will give it serious consideration. I’m here to sell at the end of the day.

International buyers – Due to the way eBay handles international transactions, postage is charged on a per-item basis. I understand this can be frustrating if you wish to purchase more than one item. If you would like multiple items, please contact me with the item numbers and I will combine them into a single listing. This will reduce the overall postage and handling costs into one transaction.

Kind regards, Carl
