Large vintage EMI Type 9530R 5-inch photomultiplier tube (PMT), manufactured in Great Britain and carrying serial number 12025.
This is an impressive large-area scientific photomultiplier with a substantial approximately 5-inch photosensitive window, multi-stage internal dynode structure and multi-pin glass base.
The tube retains protective foam around the circumference of the large glass face and provides an excellent visible example of classic British photomultiplier construction.
Provenance
This photomultiplier was removed from scientific research equipment originating from facilities at either Harwell or Rutherford Laboratories, where it formed part of an important research project.
It was working when the equipment was decommissioned.
To the best of my knowledge the tube remains in fully working order. However, I no longer have the specialist equipment necessary to properly test these photomultipliers and therefore cannot guarantee its current performance.

Condition
Good used vintage laboratory condition.
The glass envelope appears intact and the internal electrode/dynode structure presents well. There are normal signs of previous laboratory use, including old tape/labels and marks.
The protective foam around the circumference of the photocathode end is split/damaged in one area, clearly visible in the photographs. This does not appear to involve the glass itself.
The tube was working when the equipment was decommissioned. It has not subsequently been tested due to the specialist equipment required, so current performance cannot be guaranteed.
