Brief history of Brunswick Square:
Laid out in 1796 on the historic Foundling Hospital Estate, Brunswick Square was named in honour of Queen Caroline of Brunswick, the Princess of Wales and eventual Queen consort.
The elite grounds operated under a strict, subscription-only locked gate system. Historical records from 1814 confirm that residents paid an exclusive annual fee to carry these keys.
Rules dictated that female servants could only enter when attending a subscribing family member, while male servants and dogs were denied entry entirely.
Brunswick Square's original gates and locks were melted down during World War II for the War Effort, making this surviving physical key exceptionally scarce.

The style of this key and stamped title would suggest a date for this particular key of c.1880-1920
