The Minolta MD 20mm f2.8 was introduced in 1981. It has 10 elements in 9 groups, accepts 55mm filters and has a six-bladed aperture. The serial number is 8005324.

Per japb.net, this can be characterized as the "MD III (1981–1984)" variant. This line offered a small tab to lock the aperture ring at minimum aperture, which allows it to work with the auto-exposure features of cameras of the era.

Test photos: The star sculpture was shot at f/2.8 f/5.6 and f/11. The outdoor houses were shot at f/8 and the interior at f/4. Ilford FP4+ developed in HC-110.

I didn't use the included filter with the test shots, but looking through the viewfinder on a Minolta X-700, I couldn't see any vignetting.

Looking through the lens to assess its condition is somewhat difficult due to its wideangle formula. It looks very clean, with some light internal dust, one possible bright spot near one edge looking through rear element, and I can't see anything wrong otherwise. There is no sign of fungus or haze, no scratches or cleaning marks.

Focus and diaphragm controls are very smooth. 6-blade aperture is symmetrical through its range, diaphragm blades are clean and dry, auto-diaphragm action quick and responsive. Aperture lock works. Filter threads are clean, a 55mm filter mounts easily.

It includes a clip-on plastic Minolta lens cap, matching Minolta lens hood, Hoya 55mm Skylight (1b) filter, Minolta back cap, and a Minolta snap-top leather-ish padded case. which shows a couple of dents but otherwise very little wear and has two sturdy strap lugs. Lens hood clips on to lens in reversed position for storage, and seems to attach securely.
