Beautiful original 1906 antique Swiss postcard featuring a traditional sailing vessel on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman).

The front is captioned:

“Barque du Léman”

and shows a traditional Lake Geneva barque under sail, with the mountains rising in the distance.

The postcard was heavily handwritten and postally used in August 1906, sent from Switzerland to Lexington, Massachusetts, USA.

The reverse retains its original red Swiss 10-centime Helvetia postage stamp with postal cancellations.

Traditional Barques du Léman are an especially interesting part of Lake Geneva’s maritime heritage, recognizable by their distinctive lateen sails. The Musée du Léman describes these vessels as traditional and notably picturesque Lake Geneva sailing craft.
