This Kishmet amulet is made of compressed gums, spices and aromatics. Charms like this were said to possess the power of exorcising evil spirits and warding off sickness and contagion. Similar Kismets were sold at the Columbian Exposition in 1892-83. Unfortunately, it is no longer aromatic, but still in great condition and is a nice example of the kinds of medical amulets popular in the era.
