On offer is a Gillette twist to open adjustable safety razor dating from 1963. It weighs approx 70gms, and has an overall length of about 9cms (3⅝"). The razor came to me along with the old white plastic soap box, and the brown leather travel case shown in the pictures. As far as I can tell everything on this is working fine, but I'm not an expert on vintage razors. Please look carefully at the pictures as they form part of the item description.

The razor was made in the USA, and has the date code I - 2 stamped on it which dates it to the second quarter of 1963 (April to June). There is also "Made in U.S.A. Gillette Reg US Pat Off" stamped on the underside. It has 9 different custom shave settings, and the adjustment dial turns smoothly with a nice click through each of the settings. The razor opens and closes smoothly, and would hold a blade firmly in place. There is no blade supplied with the razor. Stamped inside is "Pat Nos On Pkg". There are some minor marks and rubbing to the razor commensurate with use and handling. I'm sure it would also benefit from a good clean up, but I have left that job for the new owner.

The vintage white plastic soap box measures about 10cm x 6.5cm x 3cm (4" x 2½" x 1¼"). It is a bit grubby and marked, and has a crack to the base. It's probably not of any use, but I've left it just in case it's wanted.

The brown leather travel case is nicely made. It measures about 13.5cm x 12.5cm x 4cm (5¼" x 4¾" x1½"). It has stitched seams, and closes with two brown press studs that still work well. On the front the name Gillette is printed in gold lettering. Inside is stamped "PAKAWA Real Cowhide Made In England". "Pakawa" leather items were produced by Barrow, Hepburn & Gale Ltd of London between the 1930s and 1960s. The case is a bit grubby and marked from use as the pictures show. It has some small white paint spots on it, and is also a bit out of shape. It would certainly benefit from a clean and polish.

Despite any cosmetic faults this is a nice example of a vintage safety razor. It displays well and will make a good addition to any collection.
