An original British War Office military booklet entitled “Infantry Reorganization 1936,” dated 29 January 1936.

Marked “For Official Use Only” and “By Command of the Army Council,” the booklet was issued for the information and guidance of the British Army during the important pre-WWII modernisation and reorganisation of the regular infantry.

The contents discuss the proposed structure and operation of reorganised infantry brigades and battalions, including:

• Infantry brigade organisation
• Command and control
• Rifle and machine-gun battalions
• Anti-tank equipment
• Light machine guns
• Mechanised first-line transport
• Air defence
• Tools and administration
• Machine-gun carriers
• Provisional personnel and vehicle establishments
• Scale of tools for rifle battalions

The booklet includes extensive tables recording personnel, vehicles, motorcycles, transport, equipment and battalion establishments.

It is numbered to page 26 and appears complete, although it has not been exhaustively collated page by page.

The cover bears several handwritten names or annotations, including what appears to be a former officer’s name, together with an additional later training-related notation inside. The handwriting has not been fully identified.

Condition: Used vintage condition. The original staples are heavily rusted, producing considerable brown staining around the spine and transferring onto a number of internal pages. There is general age toning, spotting, handling wear, small marks, edge wear, corner creasing and handwritten annotations. The pages remain readable and the booklet is still held together, but it should be handled carefully because of the rusted binding. Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.
