Up for sale an antique brass powder horn from the 1800’s. I admit this one was far from my areas of expertise so I asked AI - and here’s what it said…
“The distinct eagle-shaped plug, rosette chain links, and the engraved foliate patterns on the brass body match standard design motifs popular throughout Latin America and Mexico during the mid-to-late 19th century.”
Take that for what you will but there are other examples out there of this exact horn saying similar things so I’m going to go with that.
The horn measures 25” from bell to eagles crest. The base of the horn is 4” in diameter. Seven floral rosettes along the main chain as shown. Nice decorative pattern throughout but there is a ding in one side of the horn. (see pic) Had to break it in I guess!;-) Overall condition is very good with wear and patina. Crested Eagle top fits nicely on the horns.
Running this as an auction AND don't forget to check out my other auctions - I'm slowly selling off some very unique "stuff" I've been collecting for decades - you never know what you'll find!
