S.S. "NIEUW AMSTERDAM"

2  VERY RARE BROCHURES OF THE LAST VOYAGES OF THE NIEUW !!!

THE BEAUTIFUL, LOVELY, HISTORIC "NIEUW AMSTERDAM" SAILED ON HER FINAL VOYAGE, A 10 NIGHT CRUISE ON DECEMBER 7, 1973.

THIS LISTING IS FOR THE LAST 2 BROCHURES. The first,  the tuquoise one, is the "preliminary announcement" and the other  the white one, talks about the retirement of the ship and her last cruises. This brochure was actually made for the TRAVEL INDUSTRY.....as noted by the "invites your clients" title.

An interesting note, in that brochure it has a photo and note from Bob Smith, the cruise director on the Nieuw Amsterdam....well, unless I'm very much mistaken, this same Bob Smith was the cruise director on the ill-fated "Morro Castle" which burned off New Jersey in September 1934!

Being a huge fan of the great ocean liners,  as soon as I heard that the 'Nieuw Amsterdam" was going to be retired, I pleaded, begged, cajoled, harangued my father to take me on the last voyage.  (1 was 14 at the time.)  However, seeing as how we had been on 3 cruises already in 1973, he didn't like the idea of a 4th.  However, he did check in to it, but by then the last several cruises, including the last one,  were all fully booked and the waitlist closed.  Of course I was very disappointed.  However, my father contacted the district sales manager for Holland America and told him about the disappointment of his son, he sent me a wonderful assortment of items from the last voyage, after it was over.  So I've had these items since December, 1973.
