A handwritten letter by Sir Hudson Lowe, Governor of St Helena during Napoleon's exile there.

'Sir H. Lowe begs to acquaint Mr Barnard that the glass he has proposed to send will not answer. The one at the price of 22 guineas was rather too large, the one wanting being about 44 inches wide and somewhat under or about the same height - but as Sir HL cannot remain at Brighton to see it put up, he does not wish it to be now sent.'
