A courier at dusk should read your number from the pavement, not from the gate. Two acrylic panels — a black gloss backing plate and a clear front panel carrying UV printed white text — are held apart on silver standoffs, so the lettering floats forward and stays sharp against the black behind it.
A house sign has one job, and it is usually being done in poor light by somebody who has never been to your street before.
White UV printed text on a black gloss backing panel gives the strongest contrast available. The number stays legible from across the road and under a passing headlamp.
Waterproof and suitable for all weather conditions. The print is applied by UV cure rather than sitting on the surface as a sticker, so driving rain and frost have nothing to lift.
The clear front panel is mounted off the backing panel on silver standoffs. The shadow gap between the two is what separates this from a flat plate screwed to the brick.
Sixteen design styles, so the number and street name can be set to match a Victorian terrace, a new build or a shopfront without looking like a compromise.
One backing colour, chosen rather than defaulted to.
Black gloss is the only backing finish offered here, because it is the one that makes white UV printed text carry. Lighter backings soften the edge of the numerals at distance; black holds it. The gloss surface also picks up daylight and doorway lighting, which is what gives the sign its depth on a dull afternoon.

The sign is made to order from the details you supply, so it is worth two minutes at this stage.
Two fixings, a drill and around fifteen minutes. No wiring and nothing to maintain.
Mount at roughly eye level beside the door, or on the gate post or wall facing the road. Hold the panels against the wall and step back to the pavement before you mark anything — a sign that reads well at arm's length can be lost behind a hedge or a wheelie bin from the street.
Use the backing panel to mark the two fixing points, check them with a spirit level, then drill and insert the supplied wall plugs. On brick or render drill into the masonry rather than the mortar line for a firmer hold.
Fix the standoff bases to the wall with the supplied screws, seat the backing panel and front panel over them, then hand tighten the caps. Snug is enough — overtightening puts stress on acrylic and is the one avoidable way to damage the panels.
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and a little washing up liquid. Avoid solvent cleaners, abrasive pads and pressure washers, all of which will dull an acrylic surface. Nothing else is needed — the print is not a surface film to be reapplied.
Cut, printed and packed to order in our own workshop, not bought in and relabelled.
The same dual panel build goes on a shopfront as goes on a front door.
Panels are shipped protected and boxed, with the fixings packed separately.
