a magnificent antique 3-gallon primitive salt-glazed stoneware merchant jug. This imposing, heavy hand-thrown piece showcases a beautiful, rustic salt-glaze finish with an incredibly dense, speckled brown "turkey-droppings" pattern across the rounded upper shoulders. The face is boldly decorated with a large, sweeping hand-painted cobalt blue script number "3" indicating its liquid capacity. A premier focal piece for any advanced country primitive or early American stoneware collection.

Condition Report:
This 3-gallon jug is in excellent, highly stable antique primitive condition and has been wonderfully preserved over the last century with just minor wear:

Spout Rim: As clearly visible in the listing photos, there is a small, shallow chip located right at the top lip of the pouring spout. This is an authentic, historic blemish consistent with routine field or cellar use.
Body & Structure: Structurally exceptional and rock-solid. The thick cylindrical body is completely free of major vertical hairline cracks, structural spidering, or post-production repairs.
Handle: The heavy-duty pulled clay loop handle is firmly attached at both anchoring joints.
Glaze & Character Flaws: The glaze retains its authentic orange-peel texture and a beautiful satin sheen. There are a few factory kiln imperfections present from the original firing, including minor surface pocks, unglazed stone pops on the side, and a couple of dark under-glaze iron run drops near the handle on the shoulder.
Base: The unglazed flat bottom shows authentic, heavy wire-cut lines from the wheel, historic shelf grime, and typical rim resting wear.
