COMBAT
Armed and Unarmed Combat Skills from the Official Training Manuals of
the World’s Elite Military Corps
Editor: LEN CACUTT
This book is not about heroics, or deeds
of dashing bravery before the enemy. This
book does not glamorise war in the Hollywood style, and there are no heroes to
win through in the last reel. ‘Combat’
is all about the skills a soldier must learn if he is to become a valued and
trusted member of a highly trained body of men.
Every war produces its quota of medal-winners,
but the average soldier does his bit, often in very dangerous circumstances,
gets it over with, and remains unheralded and unsung. But if that job was done well the best praises
he will hear will be from those of his comrades who relied on him at some
crucial moment.
‘Combat’ is about some of the soldiers
hard learned skills such as patrols, ambushes, fighting in and from armoured
vehicles, street combat, and how to cope with the battlefield left contaminated
after attack. And should he become a PoW,
a chapter is included on how to cope with the sudden trauma of loss of freedom
and interrogation, and what to do if and when the soldier at last gets over the
wire.
There is no glory in ‘Combat’, nothing
but reality and the test of hard training in order to become an efficient
soldier.
