INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:

  • Numistamps are metal pieces approximately 1 1/4" x 3/4" in size, that resemble stamps. They were produced to commemorate every type and denomination of regular coinage issued by the USA from 1793-1976, starting with the half cent through the $20 gold double eagle.
  • The series was made with full knowledge of the USA Department of Treasury, and each coin obverse and reverse is faithfully reproduced in the likeness of the original coin and with a finish similar to the original coin material.
  • They were designed by Mort Reed, and the full set was originally 117 pieces. There was a surprise final bonus 3 pieces set added when the USA bicentennial coin set were produced, bringing the final total of the collection to a whooping 120 pieces!!! Each piece also has the series number on it's reverse.
  • They were produced in a span of 5 1/2 years (due to several issues the companies involved went thru) starting on February 1976 to September 1981. The original Numismatic News Weekly article on December 11, 1973, advertised the Numistamp Collection as a cheaper alternative to accumulating an expensive complete U.S. type coin set. Two Numistamps would be issued monthly for $4.50 each and mailed to collectors. A set of 117 pieces would cost $526.50 vs the uncirculated real coins set costing at least $136,079.50.
