COMPOSITION PRESENTING APHRODITE AND HERMES
Roman terracotta composition presenting a couple, probably Aphrodite and Hermes.
They are presented naked, each slightly swayed. Aphrodite has curly hair styled back, held in place by a tiara headdress. Hermes wears a cape that covers his shoulders, he holds a staff in his left hand, possibly a caduceus whose upper part is missing. Aphrodite holds a large palm frond in her right hand, her arm resting on a young child, possibly a hermaphrodite, the fruit of their union.

Very good state of conservation - no restoration
Dimensions: height 15.6 cm - width 9.8 cm
Provenance: Dutch private collection, established between 1970 and 1974 by a collector working for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and stationed in North Africa.

Roman terracotta composition depicting a couple, likely Aphrodite and Hermes.
They are shown nude, each with a slight shift in weight (contrapposto). Aphrodite has curly hair swept back and secured by a diadem-style headdress. Hermes wears a cape covering his shoulders and holds a staff in his left hand—possibly a caduceus with the upper section missing. Aphrodite holds a large palm frond in her right hand, resting her arm on a young child—possibly Hermaphroditus—the offspring of their union.
