This small but heavy sterling silver dish was made probably in Shanghai, China. WW II period . Most likely purchased by United States servicemen that traveled to the city, as it was customary for local people bring to the port and sell jewelry and souvenirs to military personnel prior to their departure. These high quality goods were never directly exported to the United States, so they are quite difficult to find, and especially rare in good condition.

This particular dish features an original, non re-strike Chinese 1934 Sun Yat-Sen "Junk Ship Dollar" silver coin in the center. This is a collectible Chinese silver coin minted from .900 fine silver. The dish is quite heavy for its' size, weighing a total of 61.1 grams. With a sturdy and solid construction, and fine detailing along the edge, this is a high-quality example with superior craftsmanship. The dish contains some light markings throughout consistent with age and use, but there are no dings, dents or heavy scratches. The bottom contains crisp "Silver" , "90"  and makers mark / hallmark. Overall great vintage condition, and a unique and rare addition for any collection.
