Stereoview photograph of factories and city
buildings by a river in Lowell, Massachusetts, circa 1860s to 1870s. No
photographer or publisher identified. The view, identified on the back as
Lowell, Mass., looks down on a broad river, wooded in the foreground, with
factory buildings standing in the near distance. The stereoview is in only fair
or better condition with light wear and soiling. Note the light rubbing and
bumping at the corners of the card. The photographs exhibit good or better
tonal range and show good or better detail. The right photograph is missing a
large piece at the bottom right corner—losing the clump of trees in the
foreground, and the left photograph has a smaller piece missing at the top left
corner—just the sky. The blue paper on the back may cover a photographer’s
mark. Still a nice early image of Lowell MA!
