This is an original 1942-dated Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) Dalton Dead Reckoning Computer, one of the most ingenious and beautifully engineered navigation devices produced during the Second World War. Designed as a compact, all-in-one flight navigation aid, this remarkable instrument combines several essential pilot and navigator tools into a single unit, making it both highly practical and an impressive example of wartime aviation technology.

The computer was designed to be strapped to the pilot's or navigator's leg, serving as a convenient kneeboard while in flight. The upper surface features the standard Dalton dead reckoning computer used to calculate speed, distance, time, wind correction, and other critical navigation problems. The top section flips open to reveal the true course calculator, allowing navigators to quickly determine headings and make accurate course corrections while airborne.

The unit is equipped with two side-mounted control knobs. One knob smoothly rotates the true course wheel as intended. The second knob was originally designed to operate the internal calibration sheet; however, it is no longer functional. This does not detract from the display value or historical significance of this scarce wartime navigation instrument.

Included is the original aerial navigation note pad, dated 1942, providing an interesting -war component that was intended for recording navigational calculations and flight data. The original leg straps are also present, completing this impressive assembly.

Overall condition is very good, with honest signs of wartime use and an attractive aged patina that reflects its military service. The Dalton Dead Reckoning Computer is a fascinating piece of R.C.A.F. history and represents the sophisticated navigation equipment relied upon by Allied aircrews during WWII. Whether displayed in an aviation collection, museum exhibit, or alongside other flight gear, this is a rare and highly desirable artifact that seldom becomes available.

A superb addition to any collection of WWII aviation memorabilia, Royal Canadian Air Force equipment, or military navigation instruments. All items sold are 100% guaranteed to be original unless otherwise stated. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
