Up for sale is my vintage 34mm 1978 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Ref. 1500 with blue dial in stainless steel. Asking £2,933 OBO. The watch is a 5 million serial, in fair to good condition despite its age, worn minimally and always stored properly. This model features Rolex's timeless Oyster case with a smooth polished bezel, screw-down Twinlock crown and the classic sunburst blue dial with applied baton hour markers. The dial has developed a speckled effect with some lume breakdown. Contains the Rolex Calibre 1570 chronometer-certified automatic movement, central seconds, date display at 3 o'clock, acrylic crystal, screw-down caseback. Watch is supplied on a used steel Oyster style bracelet which is non-oem/ non-original aftermarket- it is not a genuine Rolex bracelet. The original bracelet has long since perished.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date models of this era are collectible due to their vintage charm, outstanding reliability and timeless proportions. The Ref. 1500 is regarded as one of the best-value vintage Rolex references, sharing the legendary Calibre 1570 movement with many contemporary Datejust models while maintaining a versatile 34mm case size that wears comfortably on virtually any wrist. Stored in a PELI 1450 watertight case (not included) in a temperature-controlled room and routinely wound to keep the movement active.
Condition: Fair condition for its age.
Marks around bezel at 11, 3 and 7 o’clock position, speckling to the dial, lume breakdown, hairlines and marks to case sides. Naturally, hands have corrosion and patina due to it’s 48 years of life. The Non-oem aftermarket bracelet has marks and hairlines to links and clasp. The watch winds, tells date and time, however I am unaware of it’s previous service history. Therefore, it would benefit from a full mechanical service to ensure crown (which does screw/ unscrew and sets the features but is slightly loose), movement and any other mechanical parts are cleaned, oiled and serviced so it can be brought back to chronometer specification. The watch has been captured using high-resolution and macro photography to provide full transparency of its condition. Macro images can significantly magnify even the smallest details, often making minor imperfections appear more prominent than they are in reality. In person and under normal viewing conditions, any such marks are barely visible and difficult to detect with the naked eye. Imperceptible flaws or minor marks are intentionally revealed, not concealed by me.
