This pipe is absolutely INSANE!!! First and foremost, look at that finish and grain, holy smokes! And, I believe I counted 20 panels......
Andrey, despite just about being at his pinnacle in my humble opinion, continues to fine tune each and every pipe with the utmost precision engineering, remarkable shapes, stunning finishes, incredible hand-cut Cumberland stems and all while employing the finest aged briar from Mimmo & Manno. This particular shape I have only seen from him one other time and have only had one other, his paneled rendition of the Blowfish, and it simply could not be more unique! This is hands-down easily in my top 5 shapes he makes as it simply has no equal, a masterpiece and a functional work of art in every sense of the word. If ever there was a head turning pipe! It's hard to explain, so I'll let the pics do most of the talking but it does have the signature Blowfish "puffy cheeks" on the flanks that are sort of trapezoid shaped which is amazing while accentuated by amazing fluting with all of this done by hand! Looking at the profile, I think you could even call this shape a Bulldog, which is remarkable. To the front and rear it is paneled with sharp creases and a spine running the length while the rim looks super unique as well and chamfered to a hearty chamber. To the rear the transition is crisp to a chubby hexagonal bent shank that widens substantially with inlaid brass ring for strength and pizazz holding the hand-cut saddle Cumberland stem with fishtail bit and lovely "grain". Finish is a rich golden contrast that beautifully highlights the majestic layers upon layers of cross grain running the lengths but the star of the show to me is the birdseye on the "cheeks" and flanks, whoa! Another absolute treasure piece from Kharitonov, this one is NOT to be missed!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 17 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
