Oh my word look at that ring grain blast, whoa!!!!! This rare pipe is one that you stare at in awe of its sheer magnificence! Dunhill introduced the "Ring Grain" designation/grading in 1986 after offering some of the finest blasts for almost 70 years at that point. If there's a high grade designation for straight grain, why not ring grain?? Now for 40 years it has become the most coveted of the Shell Briars, always spectacular indeed. While many Ring Grains from the venerable English marque have shape designations, this one is a Quaint meaning it falls outside the standard portfolio lineup and also stamped "5" for its group size. Though it is similar to their 5134 Brandy, it is much more wide and stout, more like a Volcano in fact! It also has that "Beehive" look, especially due to the massive ring grain!
The bowl is robust and beautifully formed and the hand-feel is not only exceptional due to the shape but the texture from the ring grain is exquisite! The walls are super thick and the chamber modest for a Group 5 which to me is a bonus as you know it'll smoke cool and dry. The transition is crisp to a sturdy round shank that meets the long vulcanite stem with crisp white spot and a touch of fishtail to the bit. Shell finish is absolutely striking and looks jet-black from afar but up close is a super rich burgundy with oxblood accents on the intricate blast displaying 360 degree super tight/uniform ring grain and when you look close you can still see the straight grain of this magnificent briar! An exceptional Dunhill Quaint 5 Ring Grain that comes with glove (not shown) and awaits its maiden voyage, this one's simply not to be missed!!!

Due to an almost 25% increase for Express and Priority Shipping, I am switching back to First Class for $25 moving forward to all international destinations. Express or Priority is available upon request, as is insurance. Any lost parcels will be refunded upon insurance payout.

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 17 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
