This is another brand spanking new piece from Kharitonov made this year, and once again I am just floored with his ability to continually surprise me; look at that finish and grain, especially the birdseye covered heel, wow!!!!! Andrey, despite just about being at his pinnacle in my humble opinion, continues to fine tune each and every pipe with the utmost precision engineering, remarkable shapes, stunning finishes, incredible hand-cut Cumberland stems and all while employing the finest aged briar from Mimmo & Manno. This is again a brand-new pipe and a shape I have seen a few times before from Andrey, a neo-classical take on the affable bent Apple, my personal favorite which is making this one extremely difficult not to keep as it is begging to be smoked! I see a lot of S. Bang influence here yet still remains quintessentially Kharitonov and muscular throughout. The bowl is hearty and cradles in hand perfectly sporting massively thick walls and a chamfered rim leading to a relatively modest chamber for the bowl's overall size yet still affords plenty of capacity. The heel is just flat enough making for a nice setter while the junction & transition again are very S. Bang looking to me with the chubby shank extending a bit to the heel while to the rear swoops up in a half bend and extended by a lovely matching Cumberland accent ring that meets a 40,000 year old real Mammoth piece that has a recessed mortise holding the beautiful green swirled hand-cut Cumberland saddle stem with fishtail bit. Andrey's stem work to me is simply unequaled as he even uses mathematical formulas to ensure there is no turbulence! Finish is a rich golden "tiger's-eye" contrast with some fall leaf like colors swirling around and highlighting the absolutely stunning grain! I have to say this is easily in the top 5 finest grained pipes I have received from Andrey as the bowl shows 360 degree layers upon layers of angel hair fine straight & flame that looks painted on with a brush, "birdseye on fire" to the rear and covering the rim, and the heel, oh my word!! The birdseye on the heel looks like what you'd find on a Bo Nordh, it is that tight and perfect! Kharitonov has once again outdone himself, and I'm pleased to offer his most recent works of art and continue our goal of bringing these pipes to the hands of the utmost discerning collectors who demand the most exceptional pipes in the world!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 17 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
