Designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais, the coloured reverse of each 5-ounce 99.99% pure silver coin features a selectively painted and engraved image of a plant found in Canada, embellished with a Venetian glass insect species found in Canada. The Venetian glass insects are handcrafted by Giuliano Donaggio, a master glassmaker in Murano, Italy.

• Tulip and Ladybug:
  The coin that started it all in 2011—and the first-ever of its kind—this design features a red and black Venetian glass ladybug sitting on the bright green leaf of a red tulip.

  A Venetian glass yellow-banded bumble bee perches delicately on the golden heart of an engraved and coloured purple-stemmed aster.
